Texas & Pacific
Railroad
Fort Worth, Texas
Gideon Toal provided architectural services
for the complete restoration of the 6,440 square foot 1930’s
Texas & Pacific Railroad Passenger Station Main Waiting Area.
This will serve as a final station/ stop on the Fort Worth end of
rail service connecting Fort Worth and Dallas. Research included field
documentation, comparing existing conditions with original building
blueprints, and chemical analysis of paint layers to determine original
colors. Although many parts of the restoration had to be newly created,
there existed at least one original of each item to use as a model
(grille, wall sconce, etc.). All glass, metal, and marble elements
were completely restored. The wall and ceiling panels, made of sugar
cane fiber no longer available, were replaced using panels found in
hidden locations elsewhere in the building. This project was recognized
with an Honor Award from the Fort Worth Chapter of the American Institute
of Architects. |
