Texas Department
of Transportation, TransVISION Tarrant Traffic Management Center and
Training Center
Fort Worth, Texas
Architectural design of the 33,700-SF,
3-story center is driven by good traffic operations management principles.
Gideon Toal developed a layout for the central control room that responds
to the needs of TxDOT operations personnel. The 3-story control room
houses sixteen consoles, view screens, voice communications, and other
equipment ergonomically designed to facilitate the operator’s
traffic management responsibilities. All traffic management devices,
such as loop detectors, cameras, lane control signals, changeable
message signs, are integrated using a fiber optic communications network
and controlled from the Traffic Management Center. The regional training
center, distinguished on the exterior by a standing seam barrel vaulted
roof, consists of three large classrooms and a break room. The center
also provides space for conference rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors
that look down into the control room, equipment assembly and storage,
maintenance, and administration facilities. |
