Adaptive Reuse

As a firm we view adaptive reuse as an avenue for sustainability. By preserving structures and adapting them to new uses in an evolving world, we can contribute to sprawl reduction and land conservation. To us, adaptive reuse is a direct contributor to sustaining communities and their histories as well as minimizing impact to the environment.

Design of the building takes its inspiration from the surrounding campus style, with neo-Georgian brick detailing, TCU blond masonry, simple masses and the promotion of human-scale architecture. One of the main focuses of the building design was to reorient and expand the northwest entrance to the building to create a welcoming space that promotes interaction with the larger campus.

Bennett Benner Pettit provided architectural services for the complete restoration of the 6,440-square-foot 1930s Texas & Pacific Railroad Passenger Station Main Waiting Area. The T&P Station now serves as a final stop on the Fort Worth end of rail service connecting Fort Worth and Dallas.

Restoration of this turn-of-the-century museum/mansion was completed after several owners and a long period of vacancy and neglect that greatly damaged the fabric of the house, especially the interior finishes and artwork. Opened in 1911, Jarvis Hall is the oldest building on TCU’s Fort Worth campus. Until recently, Jarvis Hall served as a women’s dormitory. Due to recent growth at TCU and changes in student housing, Bennett Benner Pettit was asked to renovate Jarvis Hall to incorporate career services, student services, university ministries, music classrooms and offices.
